Repurposing your Quarantine Closet Staples

Repurposing your Quarantine Closet Staples

Our workday, the way we spend free time and how our kids learn has completely changed over the last few months, but those aren’t the other things… Our day-to-day outfits look very different, too!

Whether it’s because you started working from home or just decided to play it safe and stay indoors, your fashion sense has probably enjoyed a bit of a 2020 makeover.

Fashion trends did a pretty extreme pivot. Here’s what we were excited about pre-isolation: Trending Fashion Finds blog.

As things start to open up all across the country, you can find new ways to bring new life to your favourite at-home looks. Here are just a few ideas to get the reinspire your fashion sensibilities:

Tie-dye

This throwback to the 60s and 70s made a comeback thanks to at-home DIY projects. But there’s no reason you can’t dress up your fav tie-dye tee with a pair of great jeans (or biker shorts depending on the weather), a sleek pair of tennis shoes and some killer sunglasses. Our go-to for cool shades that won’t break the bank – Clearly. Call it your brunch-on-the-patio-with-the-girls look.

Alternatively, you can dress down more formal office attire. First, swap the suit jacket for a light wash denim jacket (Levi’s, Reitmans and Gap all have affordable versions). Trade your button-up for a reverse tie-dye tee. Tee a little too long? No problem! Grab the hem on one side and twist-tie it into a knot to keep it hip level. Roll the hem of your dress pants for a more casual vibe and throw on your favourite summer sandals. The only thing left to do is admire how easy it was to totally transform your look!

Sweatsuits

The best way to repurpose your sweats is to separate them. A simple white t-shirt with the sweat pants and your best runners are an easily achievable, yet chic-casual look.

Split the difference by pairing the sweatshirt with leggings or blue jeans. We always reach for our favourite denim from 7 For All Mankind, Joe’s Jeans and Frank And Oak. Make sure you give the look a bit of somethin’ special by scrunching the sleeves to your elbows. This is the perfect way to transition your cozy indoor sweats for fall and winter wear.

Rompers

One of the pieces we unexpectedly got a TON of wear out of was the romper. We love rompers because you can either dress them up or down. The vibe is completely up to you!

For a dressed-up look, we envision a pair of killer evening heels, bold and blingy bobbles topped off with a lightweight jacket. Voila!

To dress rompers down, all you need is a pair of casual sneakers, a jean jacket and a belt-bag (aka fanny packs). Simple and stylish!

Inside shoes

Thanks to slide sandals, Crocs, moccasins, and other comfy indoor shoes, our feet have been very comfy and happy for the past few months. But don’t worry, just because you can venture out more doesn’t mean you need to see less of your favourite shoes!

Here are a couple of ways we’ve been pairing these styles; slides with cropped jeans or leggings, moccasins and the aforementioned romper (also pairs well with tie-dye looks), Crocs meet sweat pants – it’s a thing!

Biker shorts

Biker shorts aren’t just for lazing around the house or working out! A dress that feels a little too short to wear without, well, shorts; an extra-long & loose tee; with a tank and structured blazer – all totally Instagram-worthy looks.

And if none of those sound very you, there’s no shortage of style inspo online – a quick Google search with return looks for every day of the year! Alternatively, you can always take a spin class.

Silky PJs

If your silk pajama top is a spaghetti strap, pair it with jeans, under a fashion-forward suit or a fitted skirt. This look can play double duty (like the romper) for a chic night-on-the-town or coffee-with-the-gals. And come fall or winter, it’s an easy look layered with a plush cardigan or wear it under a leather jacket. Remember, the accessories and makeup are what will truly bring these looks to life.

Activewear sets

Much like sweat suits, your activewear sets can be split up to add a few different looks to your wardrobe. The bottoms can be worn with longer tops and tanks – perfect for when you want to be out the door in a hurry. The top, whether it’s a tank, long- or short-sleeve shirt, can be added to jeans or even a maxi skirt.

The country is starting to open up and it’s time to dust off that makeup palette and get ready to rethink your quarantine closet.
